Introduction

Pfam

Members of this family include Translin Q15631 that interacts with DNA and forms a ring around the DNA. This family also includes Q99598 that was found to interact with translin with yeast two-hybrid screen [1].

Translins are DNA-binding proteins that specifically recognise consensus sequences at the breakpoint junctions in chromosomal translocations, mostly involving immunoglobulin (Ig)/T-cell receptor gene segments. They seem to recognise single-stranded DNA ends generated by staggered breaks occuring at recombination hot spots [PUBMED:9013868]. Translin folds into an alpha-alpha superhelix, consisting of two curved layers of alpha/alpha topology [PUBMED:12079346, PUBMED:15039555].
