Introduction

Pfam

This domain is found in eukaryotes, and is about 80 amino acids in length. It is found in association with PF02854. This domain is part of the protein eIF_4G. It binds to eIF_4E by wrapping around its N terminal to form the eIF_4F complex. This complex binds various eIF_4E-BPs (binding proteins) to regulate initiation of translation.

InterPro

The eukaryotic initiation factor 4G (eIF4G) is the core of a multicomponent switch controlling gene expression at the level of translation initiation. It interacts with the small ribosomal subunit interacting protein, eIF3, and the eIF4E/cap-mRNA complex in order to load the ribosome onto mRNA during cap-dependent translation.
